Sensei Joan Hogestsu Hoeberichts,
along with Dr. Charika Marasinghe, will receive the third annual
award for Women in Engaged Buddhism from the Buddhist
Council of the MidWest in Chicago at the Buddhist Women's Conference
on March 8, 2008. They are receiving this work for their Psycho-Spiritual
Healing Program in Sri Lanka. Dr.
Charika Marasinghe will speak at
the Zen Community of Oak Park,
on Friday evening, March 7th at 7:30 pm. Sensei
Hoeberichts will give a Dharma Talk at the Zen Commnity of Oak
Park on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at 9 am.
The Buddhist Peace Fellowship
and Rev. Taigen Dan Leighton will conduct a meditaiton vigil in
Richmond Virginia to bear witness to the slave trade on April 19,
2008 from 9 am until 4 pm. This will take place in downtown Richmond
at the Statue of Reconciliation, at the site of the slave auction
houses. On the Statue of Reconciliation, are the following words,
composed by stduents from the City of Richmond school: "Acknowledge
the past, embrace the present, shape the future of reconciliation
and justice." Richmond was a key link in the chain involving the
sale and export of African Americans throuhout the south. Click
